Confidence comes in many different forms, and some of them are temporary while others are longer-lasting or permanent. When you work to build your confidence, you want to concentrate on building up the latter kind.

There are many reasons for this. First, every person has a baseline level of confidence -this is how confident they tend to be at any given time. This is their “ordinary” confidence on a normal day. It can be higher or lower depending on the person, his or her personality, and life experiences.

Baseline confidence is not only changeable, but it changes throughout a person’s life. The actions you take and the experiences you have all affect this baseline confidence level. Naturally, the higher your baseline, the more confident you tend to be all the time.

This baseline is essentially your foundation of confidence. You want it to be solid and steady, so it can’t be easily rocked. Temporary or unsteady confidence can be easily shaken or destroyed; your baseline confidence is much harder to rattle or destroy.

Some people’s baseline confidence is so sturdy it can’t be destroyed even by the worst life has to offer. Other people have their confidence destroyed by seemingly small challenges. It all depends on how high a person’s baseline confidence is and what it’s built from. Unstable foundations crumble much easier than sturdy ones.

A solid foundation of confidence makes it easier to meet life’s challenges. When something unexpected arises, you’re much more prepared and able to meet it. You’re more likely to take on new projects and pursue new opportunities if your baseline confidence is higher.

Having a solid baseline of confidence is correlated to more success in every area of life, from work and academic achievement to romantic relationships and financial success. The higher your baseline, the more likely you are to achieve your goals. This means you need to work hard to build a sturdy foundation of confidence if you want to succeed.

You can choose many different routes to increase your confidence baseline. Working on leveling up your skills is a great one. Challenging yourself to overcome obstacles you set is another. Learning new things and trying new experiences is a third.

Whichever avenue you choose, the most important thing is that you focus on activities that will build up your baseline. You want to build a foundation that will stand strong no matter what life hands you.
